Our 12-week introduction course to Magazine Journalism is an opportunity to contribute to our commercial magazine and the potential of a one-month internship based at one of our industry partners. The course is part time and takes up one day and one evening a week.
This opportunity is worth its weight in gold for any young adults (18-30) seeking a bridge into the printed press industry. The programme is primarily targeting young adults who have been excluded from such opportunities due to their social profile and / or because they are from a disadvantaged background. Our objective is to secure them with paid experience in the media industry and / or a place in higher education.
Students receive a place on the Academy following an application form and interview process. Key entry criteria include; hunger, enthusiasm and the appropriate attitude to complete the challenging programme. (It runs four times a year – January, April, July, October – with each student engaged for a maximum 12-month period).
Through our media partners, who provide bursaries to cover the majority of students’ tuition fees, the course also offers the opportunity for a one-month work placement with a major media employer and a chance to develop portfolios by contributing to Catch 22’s own free quarterly magazine, which boasts a circulation of 25,000.
Our database of industry partners include: Bauer Media, BBC Mags, Centaur, Conde Nast, Emap Business, Economist, Haymarket, Incisive Media, John Brown Publishing, NatMags, Redwood, Trinity Mirror, Wanderlust Magazine and William Reed.
If you get a place on the programme, a £50 cash deposit must be submitted at the first session. (It is refunded at the end to those with an attendance rate of 80% or more).
